The V50 TM
The V50 is based on the classic 50 watt amps of the late 60's through the mid 70's, the Vintage 50 delivers all the classic rock tones you want. Offered in several outstanding variations.
1st is the JTM 50 style.. Called the V50-JTM Spec, this amp is the crossover model from the JTM45 to the later JMP 50 amps. Its basically a tube rectified, under filtered and deeper voiced version. Slightly less gain than the later JMP versions. Output is slightly lower volume as well, making it about 40-45 watts. Beautiful round EL34 cleans, and crunch are the order of the day with the JTM spec V50. Optional soft/firm switch available on the front, to change rectification and give the amp a bit more tightness. $50
2ND is the V50-'68 Spec. This would be the late '60's plexi 50, and all its variations. During the '67-69 Plexi years, they used quite a few variations of the same basic setup. Split cathode/Shared cathode. No bypass/various bypass caps. All of the cool variations are included with this amp. This amp also is very underfiltered, with 64 UF mains, and low values throughout, its a very lively, dynamic amp. Due to the low filtering, it may have a tiny bit of "ghosting" which is one characteristic of the early Plexis. This will have the gain of the later versions, with a bit more looseness and "oldness" of the earlier version. Very similar to the 12000 series, but lower power and volume.
3RD is the Standard V50. This is the late '60's through mid 70's plexi/metal panel version. Higher filtering, and a bit brighter voicing give this amp a more aggressive tone and feel. Its a more immediate amp, without being stiff. It still retains the dynamics and life of the older style, but is a bit "newer" feeling.
All versions are a 4 input, non master volume setup, with a shared set of tone controls. Most of my all time favorite tones come from the mid 60's to the late 70's classic rock tone. The old rock tone with the British vibe from the Marshall amps of that era. The Vintage 50 has a killer, sweet full clean tone, and starts to get gritty around 4 on the volume. From 4 on up, it gets thicker and smoother crunch tones. As with all of our amps, it responds very well to the guitars volume control, and to your pick attack. When wound up, gets a nice gritty clean, or clean with a little hair on it, by rolling the volume back on the guitar. Go from there, to singing leads with just a turn of the guitars volume.
Power section is 2 el34's, OR 2 KT66's. and the preamp uses 3 12ax7/ecc83's. . I am constantly testing preamp tubes for the best possible combination. I have also been testing the use of KT66's in this amp, and its amazing. All amps are now set up with the ability to adjust for KT66's, to give you that early Page,Clapton, etc type tone. Also, all amps will accomodate 6v6's with a simple rebias, and mismatch of the impedance.
Built with the same attention to detail, and high quality as all our amps. Custom wound Heyboer transformers recreated from a teardown of the Drake 784-139 OT, hand assembled and hand wired, with no compromises. Chassis are welded for extra support and durability, and switches are all heavy duty units for long trouble free service.
The V50 comes standard with:
Winged C EL34 power tubes and a mix of Mullard, JJ, EI, or Tungsol preamp tubes.
Custom wound Heyboer output tranformer, power transformer, and choke.
ARS and Sprague high quality filter caps. Handwired with silver core teflon jacketed wire.
External bias jacks, with top mounted 10 turn bias pot for easy, precise biasing.
